ISLAMABAD, July 26, 2024 – The capital city is on high alert as authorities implement stringent security measures ahead of a planned protest by Jamat-e-Islami (JI) at D-Chowk following Friday prayers.
Road Closures and Traffic Snarls:
Since early morning, the Islamabad administration has been strategically placing containers to block major entry points into the city. This action has led to significant traffic disruptions, particularly affecting commuters traveling from Taxila to Rawalpindi.
Key Areas Affected:
- Faizabad: The expressway remains open in both directions, but Murree Road towards Rawalpindi and Islamabad is sealed.
- Bara Kahu and 26 Number Stop: Both locations are expected to be inaccessible.
- Red Zone: The area surrounding Marriott Hotel is completely sealed off.
- Taxila Margalla Road: Closed to traffic.
The blockades, which began around 3 AM, are part of the administration’s efforts to manage the anticipated influx of protesters and maintain public order. These measures come in response to planned demonstrations by both the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and JI.
