For the first time, Pakistan will be the host country for the 4th D-8 Senior Officials Meeting and 3rd D-8 Tourism Ministers Meeting on August 4-5 in Bhurbhan, Murree.
This is the first time the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation is organizing a two-day summit in the country.
A technical tour of the capital city will take place on August 6 after the conference ends, arranged by the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation.
Pakistan will host the 3rd D-8 Tourism Ministers Meeting ahead of the 4th D-8 Senior Officials Meeting, as decided at the 2nd Ministerial Meeting held in Malaysia in 2019.
However, the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021 led to postponing the summit.
According to Awn Chaudhry, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Tourism and Sports and Chairman of PTDC, the goal of the inter-ministerial meeting was to promote Pakistan’s tourism potential and explore opportunities for tourism trade between member states.
He also mentioned the summit could open new avenues for socio-economic growth.
The objectives of the meeting align with D-8 goals: identify ways to boost intra-D-8 tourism; bring together tourism experts to build capacity and develop strategies for post-Covid tourism; provide a platform for members to share best practices and knowledge to facilitate cooperation; and explore bilateral tourism promotion.
Established in 1997, D-8 is an intergovernmental group of 8 developing countries: Turkey, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, and Pakistan.
