The caretaker administration has directed the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP) to carry out the special audit. Other government agencies will also participate, including the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO), Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC).

Meanwhile, the government has promised the IMF that it will impose new taxes averaging Rs 18 billion per month in order to address projected shortfalls in tax collection. The additional taxes on sugar and textiles are expected to help meet the IMF’s “do more” demands.
