The government of Punjab has decided to expedite the process of training tourism guides. The Punjab Tourism Department aims to provide free training to 10,000 people through a 4-week online tour guide course. This is being done to improve skills and open up opportunities in the tourism industry.

Speaking about the initiative, Raja Jahangir Anwar, Secretary Tourism Punjab, emphasized the importance of having qualified tour guides, especially given the province’s 400+ tourist attractions. He said that only knowledgeable tour guides can properly highlight the cultural and historical significance of these sites.

The Secretary Tourism Punjab stated that the government-run Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (ITHM) would provide the tour guide course at a highly subsidized rate. The first batch of participants can register for free, with the ultimate target being training 10,000 people.
Eligibility Criteria
Raja Jahangir Anwar mentioned that anyone in Punjab meeting the basic criteria of having passed intermediate can apply for the course. Moreover, there is no upper age limit to enroll in the program.
During admissions, priority will be given to women and minorities. According to the Secretary Tourism, 30% of the course will be held at ITHM Lahore campus, while 70% will be online.
Those completing the course successfully will be issued licenses by the Department of Tourist Services under the Tourism Department.
