LAHORE, Pakistan (March 18, 2024) – In a move to further Arfa Karim’s vision of promoting education and social development, the Arfa Karim Foundation has unveiled a groundbreaking scholarship program. The initiative was announced during a seminar titled “Education, Social Innovation, and Social Development: Arfa Karim’s Dream,” held at Al Raazi Hall, Punjab University.
The seminar, jointly organized by the Punjab University Department of Social Work, the Sughra Begum Centre for Education Policy and Development, and the Arfa Karim Foundation, brought together academics, policymakers, and social sector representatives to discuss Arfa Karim’s legacy and its impact on Pakistan’s educational landscape.
At the forefront of the seminar’s revelations was the Arfa Karim Fellowship program, a scholarship opportunity aimed at supporting 50 deserving students in pursuing their educational aspirations. This initiative underscores the Foundation’s commitment to empowering the nation’s youth through access to quality education.

“Arfa Karim’s story continues to inspire generations of Pakistanis,” said Samina Karim, Chairperson of the Arfa Karim Foundation. “Through this scholarship program, we aim to remove financial barriers and provide promising students with the resources they need to excel academically.”
The seminar’s speakers emphasized the pivotal role of technology in addressing educational challenges, particularly in reaching out-of-school children – a cause that Arfa Karim championed throughout her remarkable life.
Notable attendees included Dr. Sonia Umar, Director of the Sughra Begum Centre for Education Policy and Development, Dr. Uzma Ashiq, Chairperson of the Department of Social Work, and esteemed members of the academic and social sectors.
In a parallel effort to equip students with contemporary skills, the University of Okara’s Directorate of Career Counseling, in collaboration with e-Rozgaar, organized a training workshop focused on freelancing, e-commerce, and digital marketing. Led by Dr. Nasrin Akhtar, the workshop aimed to empower students to thrive in the digital economy by emphasizing the importance of utilizing online platforms for skill development.
