Pakistan Railways to Reintroduce ‘Safari Tourist Train’ Through Historic Potohar Region

Islamabad, March 19, 2024 (PEN) – In a bid to promote tourism and showcase the rich cultural and scenic beauty of the Potohar Region, Pakistan Railways has announced the revival of the ‘Safari Tourist Train’, an exciting initiative that promises to offer travelers a unique and immersive experience.

The journey will commence from the historic Golra Station in Islamabad, a site steeped in British-era history and home to the renowned Islamabad Railway Museum. This museum boasts a captivating collection of railway artifacts, including ancient steam engines and heritage railway kitchens, providing visitors with a fascinating glimpse into the region’s rich railway legacy.

From Golra Station, the Safari Tourist Train will embark on a picturesque journey through the Potohar Region, passing through several significant railway stations, including Hasan Abdal, Attock, and Attock Khurd. Notably, Attock Khurd holds the distinction of housing the oldest railway museum in the country, adding an extra layer of historical significance to the trip. This museum is expected to offer passengers valuable insights into the evolution of the railway system over the years.
