The Punjab government has announced the rollout of a free solar power system project in a move to boost renewable energy adoption across selected districts. This initiative, part of a broader solarization strategy, is set to begin with a pilot phase approved by the Chief Minister of Punjab.
Initially, the project will benefit residents of Rajanpur and Attock districts starting this October. Households consuming up to 200 units of electricity per month will receive solar power systems at no cost as part of the project’s first phase.

With an investment of 30 billion rupees, the initiative aims to not only facilitate clean energy but also reduce electricity expenses for consumers. Following the successful implementation of the pilot phase, the project will expand to cover less developed districts, promoting them as Solar Energy Cities.
The second phase will offer continued support for households using up to 200 units, along with interest-free loans for those consuming up to 500 units, facilitating the installation of solar panels through a manageable 5-year installment plan. The scheme is designed to adjust payments based on seasonal energy generation, offering lower payments during the winter months when solar output naturally decreases.
