Punjab Government Launches 50% Discount Travel Card for Disabled Citizens

LAHORE, Jan 25: The Punjab government has launched a new initiative offering a 50% discount travel card for disabled individuals to make public transportation more accessible.

Under the new program introduced under the Punjab Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Act, disabled citizens holding a government-issued disability certificate can apply for the concession cards from the Deputy Director Social Welfare office in their district.

Cardholders are eligible for a 50% discount on fares for public transportation services in the province. The move aims to improve accessibility and inclusivity in public transit for the disabled populace.

Earlier last year, the caretaker provincial government had announced free travel for senior citizens and students on the Orange Line Metro Train, Metro Bus Service, and Speedo Bus Service. However, the scheme was discontinued just before the winter vacations.

Earlier this month, caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi gave the go-ahead for officials to resume free travel for students up to Class XII on all Metro Bus services and the Orange Line Train until the summer break.
