PTA Blocks 69,000 SIMs Block to Invalid ID Cards in Nationwide Crackdown

In a major move against mobile fraud, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked 69,000 SIM cards linked to fake or canceled national identity cards.

The action came after the August 16 deadline for biometric verification passed. According to the PTA, these SIMs were associated with compromised or fraudulent identification documents.

Users with blocked SIMs must obtain a new ID card from NADRA before visiting their mobile operator or franchise for biometric verification to restore service.

The PTA has issued a warning that SIMs connected to pre-2017 expired identity cards will be deactivated within a week. To prevent service interruption, users are urged to renew their ID cards through NADRA and verify their SIMs.

This crackdown is part of ongoing efforts by Pakistani authorities to combat mobile-related crimes and enhance digital security across the country.
