ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) – The much-awaited mango export season in Pakistan kicked off on a delicious note as the first shipment of the country’s prized fruit was dispatched to Dubai over the weekend.
In what is seen as the start of a promising campaign, the initial consignment marks the beginning of Pakistan’s efforts to cater to the international craving for its renowned mangoes. The Fruit Vegetable Association of Pakistan (FVAP) expressed optimism about the season’s prospects, citing the high demand for Pakistani mangoes in global markets.
“The Dubai shipment is just the beginning,” said Ahmad Khan, chairman of the FVAP. “In the coming weeks, we expect to expand our exports to other Gulf nations, including Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, and Kuwait.”
European markets are also eagerly anticipating the arrival of Pakistani mangoes, with shipments scheduled to reach the continent starting May 25.

This year, Pakistan has set an ambitious target of exporting 100,000 metric tons of mangoes, aiming to generate $90 million in foreign exchange revenue. The export campaign is a crucial contributor to the country’s economy, supporting local farmers and the agricultural sector.
Known for their unique taste and superior quality, Pakistani mangoes have garnered a reputation as a highly sought-after delicacy worldwide. The FVAP has worked closely with exporters to ensure stringent quality control measures and efficient logistics, ensuring the mangoes reach their destinations in optimal condition.
“The global appeal of our mangoes is undeniable,” Khan said. “By expanding our export markets, we aim to strengthen Pakistan’s presence in the international fruit market and foster economic ties with other nations.”
The revenue generated from mango exports plays a significant role in boosting the national economy, creating job opportunities and supporting various sectors. The agricultural sector, in particular, benefits from the increased demand, leading to improved livelihoods for farmers and associated industries.
