ISLAMABAD, Jan 25: Pakistan has become the 5th largest sesame producing country in the world with exports crossing $400 million this year, the Ministry of National Food Security and Research announced today.
The ministry highlighted the importance of sesame as a major cash crop for the country’s agriculture sector. This achievement is a result of well-coordinated efforts between federal and provincial authorities under the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) funded National Oilseeds Enhancement Program.
Strategic plans and collaborative initiatives have been instrumental in boosting sesame production and establishing Pakistan as a major player in the global sesame export market.
This year, the country exported sesame worth over $400 million, cementing its position among the top sesame producers globally. The ministry credited the coordinated efforts between federal and provincial stakeholders for this milestone.
