Pakistan Embraces Next-Gen Wi-Fi 6E Technology in 6GHz Band

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has achieved a significant milestone by introducing the 6 Gigahertz (GHz) spectrum band for unlicensed operation, enabling Wi-Fi 6E, also known as Radio Local Area Networks (RLAN).

In a groundbreaking move, Pakistan has become the 10th country in the Asia Pacific region and one of only 60 countries worldwide to adopt the 6GHz band for Wi-Fi services. The announcement was made during an event titled “Unlocking Pakistan’s Connectivity: Enablement of Next-Gen Wi-Fi in 6GHz Band.”

During the event, PTA Chairman Major General (retd) Hafeez Ur Rehman emphasized Pakistan’s leadership in embracing next-generation Wi-Fi technology. He highlighted that Pakistan stands out among forward-thinking nations in Asia by leveraging the potential of Wi-Fi 6E.

Currently, Wi-Fi in Pakistan operates in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, with available bandwidths of 100 MHz and 150 MHz, respectively. However, these bands often face congestion due to multiple applications. Wi-Fi 6E is expected to alleviate these congestion and latency issues, according to an official statement by the PTA.

The introduction of Wi-Fi 6E in the 6GHz band is anticipated to unlock new opportunities for Pakistani consumers and businesses alike. With its increased bandwidth and reduced interference, Wi-Fi 6E promises to deliver faster speeds, lower latency, and improved overall connectivity experiences.

As Pakistan continues to embrace technological advancements, the adoption of Wi-Fi 6E reinforces the country’s commitment to staying at the forefront of digital innovation and providing its citizens with cutting-edge connectivity solutions.
