Lahore – The Punjab caretaker government has postponed the inauguration of the Gujranwala Motorway Link Road once again.
The two-lane connector road linking Gujranwala with Lahore-Sialkot Motorway was previously set to open for traffic on January 20. However, authorities have missed yet another deadline for the project’s completion.
Caretaker Punjab CM Mohsin Naqvi stated that around 85% work on the road has been finished so far. He directed officials to expedite progress and announced a new tentative launch date of January 31.

Once operational, the link road will reduce travel time between Gujranwala and Lahore to just 45 minutes, claimed the caretaker CM.
He was briefed by Frontier Works Organization (FWO) officials that Rs 11 billion have been spent on constructing the route so far. FWO is overseeing the execution of the project.
Repeated delays in delivery of development projects due to governance issues have drawn criticism from opposition parties in Punjab. The PML-N provincial government that completed its tenure last year had also announced multiple inauguration dates for the Gujranwala connector road.
