Margalla Avenue Link Road Project Given New Deadline of End February

ISLAMABAD – The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced a new deadline for the completion of the Margalla Avenue Link Road project. According to CDA’s Member Engineering, the road project, which connects Margalla Avenue with E-11 and includes an interchange, is nearing completion and will have its deadline extended to end of February 2023.

The project involves construction of a 5.5 kilometer road along with an interchange. It has missed its original scheduled deadline of 20th June 2023 due to delays. The Member Engineering expressed confidence regarding fast-tracking the expansion and extension of Islamabad Expressway from Koral Interchange to T-Chowk. He regarded contractor’s acceleration of on-site construction activities as critical to achieving this goal.

The 5.5 km road currently under construction links Khayaban-i-Iqbal to Sector D-12, the terminus of Margalla Avenue, and includes installation of an interchange and flyover at E-11. The project aims to reduce traffic congestion in the capital and improve connectivity.

Margalla Avenue connects G.T. Road to D-12 and is about 10 km long. This road saw heavy commuter traffic. However, tourists faced issues at D-12 where the route ended, necessitating an extension. To address this, CDA had started construction work in December last year.

CDA also announced development work on 11th Avenue, which will further connect with the aforementioned road projects. However, no official start has been given to construction along this corridor yet.
