Google Invests in Pakistan’s Digital Future with Scholarships and Training Initiatives

Islamabad, Pakistan (AP) – In a major boost to Pakistan’s digital landscape, tech giant Google has announced a series of initiatives aimed at equipping Pakistani students and professionals with essential skills for the digital age. The company is offering 45,000 scholarships for its Google Career Certificates program and launching new training resources focused on artificial intelligence (AI) and freelancing.

The scholarships, which will be available in 2024, cover Google Career Certificates in high-growth fields such as digital marketing, cybersecurity, and data analytics. These online programs are designed to prepare students for entry-level jobs in these industries.

“We are committed to providing Pakistani youth with access to digital skills and opportunities that will empower them to reach their full potential,” said Farhan Qureshi, Google’s Country Director for Pakistan. “By offering 45,000 scholarships, we aim to strengthen Pakistan’s inclusive, empowered, and learning culture while advancing the country’s digital future.”

In addition to the scholarships, Google has introduced new AI-focused resources to its Career Certificates program. The goal is to help students understand how AI is utilized in their respective fields and gain practical experience in simulated work environments.

Recognizing Pakistan’s status as the third-largest freelancing economy globally, Google has also partnered with the Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA) to develop a program aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Pakistani freelancers. The initiative, which will benefit up to 50,000 freelancers, focuses on improving soft skills such as communication and personal branding through expert-led training sessions.

Furthermore, Google has joined forces with Tech Valley to launch the Career Kamyabi initiative, which promotes gender balance and inclusive work environments. The program aims to connect women with potential employers, fostering career advancement and economic opportunities. Over 50 of Pakistan’s top companies have supported this initiative.

Google’s investments in Pakistan also include the introduction of Google AI Essentials, a self-paced online course designed by Google AI professionals. Available in English on Coursera, the course teaches participants how to use AI tools to enhance productivity, generate ideas, and accelerate daily work, while also addressing responsible AI practices.

These initiatives come as Google reaffirms its commitment to supporting Pakistan’s digital transformation. The company believes that providing access to education and training opportunities is crucial for preparing the country’s workforce for the future.

“By collaborating with local organizations and offering initiatives like the Google Career Certificates program, we hope to open doors for Pakistani students and professionals, empowering them to thrive in the rapidly evolving tech industry,” Qureshi added.
