Extended Suspension of Metro Bus Service in Islamabad and Rawalpindi

The Islamabad Capital Territory’s Office of the District Magistrate has announced a further suspension of the Metro Bus service, covering all routes, scheduled for October 18, 2024. This decision extends the halt of the Islamabad-Rawalpindi Metro Bus services to a fourth consecutive day, driven by heightened security measures amid the ongoing Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

The notice, addressed to the Director of the Metro Bus (BRT), indicates that the continued suspension is essential due to the prevailing security environment surrounding the summit. Consequently, the entire network will remain non-operational on October 17, with relevant authorities already notified.

The extended suspension impacts numerous residents and commuters who depend on the Metro for daily travel, potentially leading to significant transportation delays and disruptions. While no definitive date for resuming services has been provided, it is anticipated that normal operations will recommence following the conclusion of the summit and the stabilization of security conditions.

Commuters are encouraged to seek alternative transportation methods during the disruption to minimize inconvenience. The authorities have not yet specified whether additional transportation options will be made available to accommodate the needs of those affected by the Metro’s prolonged closure.
