In a recent dialogue between Talha Ahad from The Centrum Media and Simon Milner, Vice President of Public Policy at Meta for the Asia Pacific, the focus was on Meta’s efforts to spur digital progress in Pakistan. A prominent initiative discussed was the construction of a 45,000-kilometer undersea cable from Karachi, extending to 33 nations across Africa and the Middle East. Scheduled for completion by 2025, this project aims to significantly boost internet connectivity, benefiting especially local artists by providing increased bandwidth and consistent service quality.
Meta is also pioneering in artificial intelligence with its Llama AI program in Pakistan. A noteworthy AI competition hosted by the company in collaboration with the National IT Board and the Ministry of IT attracted over 100 participants. The winning team will represent Pakistan in Singapore, competing for a $100,000 prize.
